Your Holiday Dinner Rolls
Cute, festive, highly photogenic—what’s not to like?
I’m not saying that you have to bake these, but if you don’t then your holiday will be much less Instagrammable than it could be, and as we all know the real meaning of the season is juicing those engagement stats. Obviously the main attraction here is the idea of baking rolls in little terra cotta flower pots, which is pure genius, and you get that for free. In terms of what you want to bake in said adorable little vessels, I have three suggestions:
You can use the One Dough To Rule Them All from my recent post, shape it into little diner rolls (flour them well), and drop them into the pots to bake. They will be wonderful—crusty outside and steamy within (like your humble narrator).
You could use my gorgeous, delicious, and healthy purple sweet potato roll recipe.
You could make the recipe below, which makes bouncy, flavorful delights that sit in a sweet spot between hard dinner rolls and Parker House rolls, but with the added benefit of some lovely flavors. Choose your own adventure, as they say.
When I first started working on this recipe years ago, I asked my wife “Do you want me to make those herb and garlic rolls again?” She replied “What are urban garlic rolls?” True story. Read on for the recipe, which is what garlic bread wants to be when it grows up.
